Continental Automotive Name Revealed at Auto Shanghai

The Continental Automotive name for the newly independent company is Aumovio. Continental presented the name at Auto Shanghai. The company said Aumovio reflects its strong heritage, market position and technical expertise. It also signals a focus on future mobility innovation. Continental said it aims to shape future transportation through advanced technologies.

Aumovio to Deliver Future Mobility Solutions

Continental said Aumovio will provide advanced mobility and electronic products. These products support software-defined vehicles and connected, autonomous mobility. According to Berylls, value per vehicle in these segments may grow 4.7% annually through 2029. That rate outpaces global vehicle production, per S&P Global Mobility. At Auto Shanghai, the company showcased its local-first strategy and new technologies. Following shareholder approval expected on April 25, 2025, Aumovio will list in Frankfurt by September.

Aumovio to Focus on Speed and Innovation

“As an independent company, we gain significantly more creative power and speed,” said Philipp von Hirschheydt, member of the Executive Board of Continental and CEO of Automotive. “Aumovio will be characterized by a triad of technologically leading products, a consistent value creation strategy and a global synergetic network, combined with a strong local presence for our customers. Our aim is to further expand our position in the future fields and growth markets of mobility. This strategy is particularly evident in China. Among other things, we are relying on our strong local presence by producing and developing locally for the Chinese market.” 

China Plays Key Role in Aumovio’s Future

Continental’s automotive unit has operated in China for 30 years. It employs about 10,000 people there and made 14% of 2024 sales in the country. China remains the world’s largest automotive market.
Forecasts suggest it will outpace global growth over the next five years. The company expanded its local value chain in China to meet rising demand. This includes local innovation, production, and supply chain capabilities.

New Technologies Tailored for China

At Auto Shanghai, Continental displayed the Luna and Astra systems. These driver-assistance technologies were co-developed with Horizon Continental Technology. Luna boosts safety and comfort through basic driving and parking features. Astra supports assisted driving without high-res maps and offers smart parking functions. Both systems target the specific needs of Chinese consumers and automakers.

Aumovio Will Lead in Future Vehicle Technologies

Continental said Aumovio will offer high-end electronics and mobility solutions. Its strengths include sensor tech, displays, braking and comfort systems. The brand also has deep expertise in software and architecture platforms. These are key to the fast-growing software-defined vehicle market.
The automotive group employs 92,000 people and made 19.4 billion euros in 2024 sales.
